The San Francisco 49ers have announced the release of cornerback Tramaine Brock after allegations of domestic violence. Earlier today Brock was arrested for an alleged domestic violence incident. It has been reported he was booked and released from Santa Clara County Main jail later in the day. Brock told ABC7 while leaving jail “I really got nothing to say about it” As an undrafted free agent in 2010 he joined the 49ers, has started for the last four years and had his career high last season with 16 starts. He was set to make 3.1 million this season while also being in his final year of contract.
It seems that the NFL are coming down hard on players that have been charge or accused of domestic violence. This might be because of the number of players that have been under fire because of domestic violence issues and the 49ers and the NFL are showing they will not accept that type of behavior.
This isn’t the 49ers first player that has had domestic violence issues Ray McDonald was charges with felony domestic violence charges in 2014 and released from the 49ers later that year. He was than arrested again in 2015 while playing for the Chicago Bears on charges of domestic violence, possible child endangerment and violating a restraining order.
Many might say that is it right for these players to lose their careers over a personal matter. Well, what many including the players must remember is that there are many impressionable young kids’ that look up to them. Also, they are representing an already stigmatized organization while also being judge for their career choice. Is it smart to add fuel the fire and give the public more negativity to speak upon? Players should remember that after their time on the field people are either going to remember the great plays they executed or the unfavorable behavior off the field. And most people will choose to remember the shortcoming and forget about how they once cheered for you.
